Mukiiza Frank aka Feffe Bussi Smallest Rapper’s has had changing fortunes since the release of ‘Who is who’ in which he attacked fellow rappers. The song elevated him to a whole new level. Matooke Republic’s Ivan Juuko had a chat with him.
You have been the talk of the town ever since you outed who is who diss track which also ignited you top of the Ugandan Hip-hop game, how does this feel?
I feel lucky, honoured and proud because this was my dream since childhood. Now that I own the hiphop crown, it’s a dream come true.
How far do you think this track has taken you?
It has taken me to extremely far places upcountry and I will also be going to the UK in September for a show. I thought I was recognized on my ‘Yes No’’ track but again this made me feel the most wanted musician in Uganda. It made me feel like a king.
Hiphop being a genre associated with beef, many fresh rappers responded with heavy dissing punchlines. What was your best of them all?
Rachael Ray’s ‘Who is she’ was my best reply. She killed it. And for the others, I am happy that they picked on hiphop that was dying out before my song. I can proudly say I woke up hiphop.
In your who is who song, you seem to be having hard feelings for Fik Fameica’s ‘relationship’ with Sheila Gashumba, are you bothered by their connection or you want Sheila for yourself?
I’m not bothered at all and I do not want Sheila that’s why in the song, I even told them to be on their own and not even include me in their business.
Do you have your own ‘’property’’?
Yes, I am seeing someone but I cannot disclose her. You will get to know her when the right time comes.
One of your latest songs ‘Badsegu’ is believed to be redirected to Sheila Gashumba, how true is this?
‘Badsegu’ comes from a Luganda word ‘musege’ which means a person or to be specific a girl who is not settled and can be taken on cheaply by anyone. So for that case if you think or know that Sheila is that kind of girl, then it’s true the song was redirected to her.
Gravity claims that GNL Zamba is the only Hip hop rapper better than him, what’s your comment?
First of all Gravity is not a rapper. He only rhymes on the beats and this makes him think he is a rapper. He only tried rapping once when he tried to reply to my who is who challenge with his ‘Black panther’ track which turned to be a flop. Him involving Navio’s mother was a bad idea.
GNL outed a song ‘’yours sincerely’’ a few weeks after your who is who track in which song he clearly stated that he is the hip hop ‘General’ opposing your claims of being the hip hop king, so who is who?
He knows what is happening on ground. Am currently running the system and I got the hip-hop crown. However respect goes back to him because he has been my inspiration since childhood and I have always taken him as my teacher though he did not have to convince me that he is better than me at hip-hop by replying because he is my teacher and I don’t expect a teacher to convince his student that he is better than him.
Are you ready to face GNL on his comeback?
I should be the one asking whether he is ready to face me on his comeback. I can strongly say that he does not know what is on the ground currently because things changed. There is now hot and fresh talent on the hip-hop scene. I am not scared of his comeback.
Close sources say that you are actually good friends with Fik Fameica and Gravity whom in your songs you continue dissing like as if you are enemies;
The truth is we were friends before the song but I think they got hard feelings seeing me hit the billboards. So we no longer talk but I meet them oftenly. I only dissed them in the song because I felt it was necessary to remind them that they were going off-track hiphop wise.
Despite all the hate and disses from fellow rappers, you seem not to stop, what has kept you moving on strongly?
My fans, I don’t want to disappoint them. The fact that fellow rappers want to prove to me that am weaker than them, that keeps me going. I have to feed my fans with good music nonstop.
Who are your best Ugandan rappers?
GNL, St.Nellysade and Rachael Ray
Now that you have nailed it on the Ugandan hip-hop scene, are you ready to face off with other hip-hop artists outside Uganda like Nasty C (SA), Sarkodie (Ghana) among others?
That’s my dream. I would love to face off with them though I know they are on a different level. I just want my fans to support me more and I will get there. I will kill them with my lugaflow.
Off the hip-hop ups and downs, what is your take on copyright law?
Copyright law should be strongly implemented because we do not get as much as we could from our music. We only get money from live performances.
Still on copyright, did you get permission from Nas to use his ‘hate me now’ soundtrack?
I didn’t get permission from him but I only did my song as a cover song.
What are your new upcoming projects?
‘Bad segu’ video is dropping soon. I have a new album dubbed ‘’Rise of Talent’’ (ROT) that I will unveil in one month’s time. Am also working on a new song called ‘This is Uganda’ which is an inspiration from Childish Gambino’s ‘This is America’ ,the song is set to be released early next week. In September I have a concert but the date will be communicated.
