Veteran controversial army officer, Brigadier Kasirye Gwanga has been promoted to a rank of Major General in the newly approved UPDF promotion. Major General rank is the third highest rank in the UPDF command structure with Lieutenant General and General in the higher ranks.
In the promotion, several other officers were elevated to higher ranks. However, Kasirye Gwanga will be retired this year.
The released statement reads; H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni the President of the Republic of Uganda and Commander in Chief of the UPDF on recommendation of the Commissions Board on 3rd March, 2018 approved the promotion to different ranks of 1384 officers and militants to various ranks.
The most senior are:
- Brig Kasirye Gwanga to Maj Gen. (to retire 2018)
- Brig Rwabantu to Maj Gen (Deputy General officer Commanding Reserves)
- Col Charles Wacha to Brig (Director Human Rights )
- Col Charles Byanyima to Brig (Commander Motorised Infantry Brigade)
- Col Henry Isoke to Brig (Deputy CMI)
- Col James Nambale to Brig (Adjutant General Headquarters )
- Col Kagoro Asingura to Brig (Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Legal Officer)
