Self-proclaimed Ankole king sent to jail

Mbarara high court yesterday, February 20, remanded self-proclaimed ‘Ankole king’ Asiimwe Ntare VI Rubambansi and his four ministers to Kyamugorani prison in Mbarara till February 27.

‘Omugabe’ Asimwe Ntare VI and his four ministers were charged with inciting violence and promoting sectarianism following the words he stated while commenting on the annulment of his kingship by the Minister of Gender labour and social development Mrs Janat Mukwaya earlier this month.

The self-proclaimed king and his four ministers were arrested on February 15 following a summon by the Regional Police Commander in Mbarara.

The four ‘ministers’ include Max Muhumuza the spokesperson, Joseph Kankiriho the kingdom secretary, Brenda Katushemerwa and Amanya Wycliffe.

The accused will return to court on Tuesday, February 27, 2018.
