As the National Resistance Movement marks 32 years in power today, less privileged cadres have a chance to study and attain world class education from Victoria University, thanks to Ruparelia Foundation scholarships.
The foundation, run by businessman Sudhir Ruparelia is offering 50% scholarships to 10 students in each of Uganda’s more than 100 districts.
The ruling party has welcomed the scholarships with open arms and Secretary General Kasule Lumumba has written to district chairpersons to identify deserving scholars.
“Identify at least 10 deserving and qualified students from the communities within your district, who have capacity to pay 50 percent of the tuition fees in addition to other functional and administrative fees as may be required by the university,” Lumumba wrote.
The scholarships are available for the February/March 2018 intake.
In her letter, Lumumba informed the NRM district leaders that the scholarship scheme is geared towards growing studentship to specific programmes, boosting and attracting talent.
Other academically talented but financially challenged students can also apply for the Ruparelia Scholarship even when they haven’t been endorsed by the NRM party as the scholarship scheme is intended to make quality of higher education affordable and promote equity in communities by supporting talented students acquire the necessary academic qualification.
