Following last year’s heroics from our long distance runners, 2018 seems to have started on a similar, if not better footing. Yesterday, Joshua Cheptegei won the race as Uganda dominated one of the most prestigious Cross Country races in Seville, Spain.
The reigning silver medalists in the IAAF World Championships 10,000m, Cheptegei continued his off-track success when he crossed the line in 00:30:54 to win the 36th Cross International de Italica.
Jacob Kiplimo, a World Cross Country junior champion came second as he posted 00:30:55 and Joel Ayeko who another Ugandan in the race finished 7th after posting 00:31:48.
Cheptegei became the second Ugandan to emerge winner of the completion after Moses Kipsiro, who won two in a row (2008 and 2009).
