The Singleton Challenge, one of the local golf calendar’s most prestigious events is back, with six months of breathtaking golf on the menu yet again and a fresh twist, in form of a qualifying round, added as the second edition tees off this Saturday, January 13.
Launched last year at the Entebbe Club, the Challenge returns to the course where it quickly established itself as one of the most competitive golfing experiences in Uganda. It is also one of the most rewarding with the top prize of a trip to the DP World Golf Series in Dubai in November this year.
Such is the tournament’s appeal this year’s edition will feature a season opening qualifying round as the number of golfers taking part has become overwhelming, with hundreds of competitors set to descend upon the quiet lakeside town of Entebbe over the weekend.
More than 128 golfers took part in the inaugural Singleton Challenge last year, which climaxed with the winning pair of Isaac Mariera and John Muchiri claiming an all-expense paid trip to watch The Open at Royal Birkdale in the United Kingdom. This year, the challenge is set to run until July.
Also up for grabs is a hole in one reward of a 2018 Pajero Sport courtesy of Victoria Motors. This will be valid for the entire season. The participating golfers can also look forward to treats by Espresso at the halfway house as well as The Singleton Challenge’s unforgettable themed 19thhole experiences.
“We are delighted to be bringing the country’s golfers to Entebbe again to create pleasurable moments and unforgettable experiences, which is what The Singleton is about. The first edition was a runaway success, and it shows from the phenomenal numbers of golfers who are interested in taking part in the 2018 edition. We can’t wait!” Ms Annette Nakiyaga, Head of Whisky Portfolio at Uganda Breweries Limited said.
The tournament will be played on a match play four ball better ball format, with the winning pairs from every month advancing to the next stage until the Challenge finale. The other sponsors include DSTv, Serena Hotels, Pinnacle Security and Rwandair.
