Another weekend of continental football is on this Saturday and history beckons as Vipers Sports Club and Kampala City Council Authority FC play CS Constantine and Mtibwa Sugar in the Caf Champions League and Caf Confederation Cup respectively.

Vipers the bigger battle to fight as it will need a 2-0 win at St Mary’s Stadium to make certain a place in the Caf Champions League group stage for the first time.

Having lost by a goal to nil in last week’s first leg in Algeria, the Venoms camp will be boosted by the return of skipper Tadeo Lwanga and defender Geoffrey Wasswa.

A goalkeeping puzzle remains, however, as Burundian goaltender Fabien is yet to recover, while Bashir Ssekagya also sustained a knock in last week’s 1-0 defeat. Derrick Ochan is the most likely option.

For KCCA FC who were 3-0 winners against Mtibwa Sugar Sports Club in a CAF Confederation Cup first game played at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo last weekend, the task is lighter ahead of the second leg trip to Dar es Salaam the same weekend.

Should Mike Mutebi’s charges go past the Tanzanians, they will be left with one more round of qualifiers where they would have an opportunity to make it to the group stages of continental competitions for the third straight year.
