Irene Namatovu now says she is working for a BET Award after AFRIMA victory

After scooping the best African traditional artiste award in the Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) held in Accra, Ghana, De Nu Eagles’ Irene Namatovu has now set her sights on winning herself a coveted BET Award.

Her song, ‘Nsambira Nyuma Nga Janzi’ won the award for Best Artiste, Duo or Group in the African Traditional category.

“I have always been watching AFRIMA awards on TV but this time around I was the one being watched by the world while receiving my award,” the jubilant Namatovu said.

The award is the that the singer has won outside Uganda – a motivation to work hard to win in the BET Awards as well. 

 

While in Ghana, Namatovu says she met and built partnerships with many African celebrities such as Yvonne Chaka Chaka, 2-Face Idibia (2baba) who gave her courage and
tips that she will use to win the award.

Other Ugandan artistes who in Ghana are Bebe Cool who defeated Tanzanian Star, Diamond Platnumz for the Best Male Artiste (East Africa), and Sandra Nankoma (Best Female Artist, African Inspirational Music).
