Just after Uganda Cranes sealed a back-to-back qualification to the 2019 AFCON finals, long-serving goalkeeper and team captain Denis Onyango has praised the local-based players for the great performance throughout this campaign.

According to the shot-stopper, the local players have shown that they are ready for the big stage.

“Am happy that our best players in this campaign play at home. This has shown that they are ready to look for greener pastures elsewhere,” Onyango said.

‘Mr Safe Hands’ further hinted on the future plans revealing that this might be his last AFCON qualification campaign at Namboole but he is confident that all players look fit to fill whichever position available.

“This might be my last AFCON qualification campaign at Namboole but with the squad, we have that is full of young talents, I have no doubts in them filling the boots. I have to give space for the young players,” the 33-year-old said.

However, Onyango said this is not a conclusive decision adding that he loves representing the national colours.
