Reigning champions Vipers take on KCCA in an early battle for league supremacy, writes William Kasoba.

The anticipated weekend cracker between champions Vipers Sports Club and their main title challengers Kampala City Council Authority Football Club comes at the best possible time, when both sides are in great form.

The Saturday fixture finds the two teams separated by just two points (Vipers on 13 and KCCA on 11), and there is more to the plot: each side will be battling to protect an unbeaten
start to the 2018/19 campaign. The Venoms will be hoping to extend their 22-game unbeaten run that stretches from last season. Despite dropping their first points this season in a four-goal thriller as they drew 2-2 against Kirinya Jinja SS, the Kitende-based can approach the tie in confident mood after winning five of their last five league games at the St. Mary’s stadium.

And if last season’s reverse fixture is anything to go by, fans have everything to look forward to come Saturday, as this is a game that has never disappointed as far as goals go. The last encounter at the St. Mary’s ground ended in a 3-2 win for the hosts although KCCA was able to exact revenge in June when the two sides locked horns in the Uganda Cup final that saw
the Kasasiro boys halt Vipers’ double mission as it won the game 1-0 in Bukedea.

There might be no silverware on offer immediately after the game this weekend but whichever side wins knows it will have made a major statement of intent as far as winning the StarTimes UPL title this year is concerned.
