NBL Finals: City Oilers bow to Power in game one playoff

In a moderately attended game that tipped off the 2018 Tusker Lite National Basketball League final play offs in the men’s category, five-time champions, BetWay Power started off with a three pointer through Joseph Ikong in the opening seconds of the game.

With fans chanting ‘We are tired of making it easy for Oilers,’ Power continued to press hard and it was evident by the time the umpires sent both teams for the long break which is at halftime, Power had a fourteen points lead, City Oilers 30 – 44 Betway Power.

The third quarter tipped off with five time successive champions Oilers placing to get back to the game but in turn failed to contain ‘master’ of the night Ikong who continued to do injustice to them with his three pointers. The end of third quarter the game was still up for grabs to both sides as it stood at Oilers 60- 68 Power.

The final quarter was one Oilers will hate to remember as they only managed to register only six points out of it while Power gathered 17 points, thanks to their dominant display. At final whistle,  Ikong had made 24 points while teammate Solo made 14 points. For Oilers Jimmy Enabu and Josh Johnson were impressive as they made 15 and 13 points respectively. Game one ended in favour of Power 85-66 and game two is slated for Friday, October 5 at the MTN Arena, Lugogo.
