Sources close to Kyadondo East MP, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi, known widely as Bobi Wine have revealed that he is set to return to the country from the US where he has been receiving treatment this week.
Although the sources were not willing to disclosing the exact day and time “for security reasons”, Matooke Republic has learnt that the maverick “People Power” head could return today, Monday, September 17 or Thursday.
The singer turned politician has held several meetings, interviews in which he called upon the international community to cut ties with the Ugandan government over gross human rights violations.
The US Congress and the European Union Parliament have been among the numerous high profile organs that have condemned the torture, brutality, and killings that the Ugandan security forces have allegedly orchestrated against Members of Parliament and other civilians in Arua last month.
Last week, the police dispersed a youth group in Kamwokya – a Kampala suburb that was laying preparations for Bobi Wine’s return.
The security forces have according to insider sources been put on “high alert” in areas of Entebbe and Kampala to stop Bobi Wine from holding a procession to the city centre.
Asuman Basalirwa, one of Bobi Wine’s lawyers told Matooke Republic that he “is counting on the security forces to act more professional this time round.”
“My client has just returned from receiving treatment. It will not be wise to handle him with the same brutality as before. Otherwise, we shall take legal action against them,” Basalirwa said.
