With various speculations over what could have caused the power blackout yesterday evening as popular legislator Robert Kyagulanyi was hosted on Voice of America’s Straight Talk Africa, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development explains that thugs disrupted the transmission.

The ministry officials took journalists to the site in Mbalala village, Mukono where allegedly vandals cut the bases of five transmission towers.

“This is the cause of yesterday’s power blackout. A group of vandals cut the bases of 5 transmission towers behind Mbalala trading center in Mukono and eventually the towers went down”, their social media pages captioned this video.

However, Umeme last night blamed the power blackout on system failure at Owen Falls Dam, Jinja.
