Hospitalised MP Zaake charged with treason and unlawful escape from police custody but cleared to go abroad for treatment

The Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament, Francis Zaake has been charged with treason and unlawful escape but finally cleared on a one-months-long police bond to travel to India for treatment.

Zaake was charged from Kiruddu Hospital under police CMI guard after government doctors examined him this morning.

Medics at Lubaga Hospital had earlier written to the Speaker of Parliament about Zaake’s need for urgent specialised treatment abroad but the MP was arrested at Entebbe Airport as he attempted to leave for India.

Zaake’s health deteriorated after he was arrested and allegedly tortured while in custody of the security forces in Arua.
