Opposition politicians led by the Leaders of Opposition, Winnie Kiiza, Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, Lawyer Medard Ssegonna, MP for Busiro East, are camping at the Special Operations Unit in Kireka where the Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament (MP) Betty Nambooze, has been summoned for interrogation into her possible involvement in the murder of slain colleague Ibrahim Abiriga of Arua Municipality and his brother/bodyguard Saidi Kongo.

Nambooze was first arrested on Wednesday, June 13, at her home in Mukono and rushed to Jinja Road Police Station from where she was later transferred to Nagalama Police Station before being released on police bond.

Nambooze was today summoned to the  Kireka based SOU for interrogation, a day that coincided with the National Budget Reading, a parliamentary event by the Finance Minister, Maria Kasaija at the Kampala Serena International Conference Centre.

The summon did not go down well with fellow opposition politicians who in turn snubbed the annual event to stand with their colleague whose prosecution, they say is not only diversionary but also defeats the purpose of unity politics the deceased is known to have promoted.

Instead, they call for a thorough investigation into the rampant killings, assassinations and kidnaps that have affected greatly the security of Ugandans.

Nambooze, 48, is a subject of investigation following a Social Media post she made soon after the late Abiriga’s shooting that was of bad taste to his family. Two of her co-accused such as Facebook blogger Raymond Soulfa alias Peng Peng and a one Jane Kuli, whose post predicted the MP’s death are still at large.
