MUK students strike over new unpopular policies, guild president arrested

The morning heavy down pour around Kampala has not prohibited Makerere University students from going on strike. The students this morning chose to strike over the new unpopular policies.

According to students, the scrapping off of meals in halls of residence, suspension of evening classes, plans to phase out end of semester exams, increase of tuition among others triggered them to strike.

Students dressed in red gowns claim the vice chancellor  sufficient  “grace period” to listen to their pleas. However, by press time, the anti-riot police had been deployed at the university and various arrests are being conducted including  guild president Papa Were Salim.
