The first round of The Singleton Challenge tees off this Saturday at the Entebbe Club as 64 pairs compete for a place in the next round, but the flavour of the championship will be the newly added subsidiary event for the singles. The subsidiary event (singles championship), according to the tournament organisers, will feature those golfers who did not make it for the qualifiers as well as those who did not make it past the qualifiers played on January 13.

The Singleton Challenge is one of the local golf calendar’s most prestigious events, and this year attracted an overwhelming number of participants for the qualifying round—as many as 220 golfers (110 pairs)—out of which only 128 golfers (64 pairs) made it to the tournament proper.

With the introduction of the singles championship (subsidiary event) the tournament which is played on a match play four ball better ball format, will have winning pairs from every month advance to the next stage until the final, while the players in the singles’ category will keep dropping off until the quarter-finals.

The challenge is set to run until July with the winning pair earning a grand prize of a trip to Dubai for the DP World Tour Championship which happens in November. There is also an enticing reward of a 2018 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport for any golfer who manages a hole in one, courtesy of Victoria Motors. The tournament’s other sponsors include DStv, Afrisafe, Ekspreso, Pinnacle Security, Serena Hotels and RwandAir.
