Despite the heavy downpour this morning, over 1000 Forum for Democratic Change party delegates have already gathered at the Mandela stadium to decide who will be their next president.
Though the presidential race has four contestants, the antincipated battle is between two party big guns Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu and newly established party darling Patrick Oboi Amuriat. The other two, Daniel Matsiko and Moses Byamugisha could be considered fillers in the race.
Amuriat’s strong support from the party comes from his strong siding with founder members Dr Kiiza Besigye who has been even repeatedly appeared on his rallies. “I was serving in the party before I came up to show interest in this position, when I do not go through tomorrow, I will return to my capacity and serve the party,” Amuriat stated yesterday while appearing on NBS TV’s Frontline show.
However, such support cannot scare away Muntu who has been at the helm of the party for over five years now. With such experience and determination, the bush war general still has good number of delegates backing him in the party that can make him retain the position.
By the end of today, the public will have known who will lead the country’s leading opposition party for the next five years.
