The 2017 MTN Kampala Marathon was concluded yesterday after several months of anticipation, with Sammy Kip Ngetich Kurgat, a Kenyan winning the men’s 42km race.
Chemonges Robert, a Ugandan won the 21km race and took home Shs4.5m. The 10km run was won by Joel Ayeko who took home Shs1.5m. Kimaiyo Rael Jepyator, a Kenyan won the 42km race for females and took home Shs20m. Doreen Chesang, a Ugandan won the 21km race for females and took home Shs4.5m. Peruth Chemutai won the 10km race for females and took home Shs1.5m.
The annual event attracted over 20,000 participants and passed without any major incidents.
Proceedings will be used to provide better facilities in Kiswa and Komamboga health centres, while others will be used to reduce the exposure of school going children to cancer caused by carcinogens present in asbestos roofings of public schools.
