Following yesterday’s confirmation from the government Chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa that each Member of Parliament will pocket Shs20m as facilitation to consult their respective constituency on whether to lift the presidential age limit or not, some opposition MPs have vowed to reject the money.
“We shall not accept Shs20m meant for so called consultation. We are certain that this money can do so much for our nation”, Kampala Central MP Muhammed Nsereko stated.
“We have in the past made laws without special pay. What is so special about the Magezi bill? This money can buy the much needed medicine in hospitals and also build call centres to provide over 50,000 youth with jobs”, he added.
This follows the tabling of a private members bill by Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi seeking for the scrapping of the age limit clause from the constitution.
