Vipers sports club president Lawrence Mulindwa has tasked his side to be a force on their return to football season in the 2017-18 campaign. He was speaking at the club’s season opening meeting which took place at the Serena Lake View Hotel in Kigo on Monday evening.
The meeting was attended by various club stakeholders and the players to officially mark the beginning of their 2017-18 season. Vipers finished third on the sixteen team log last season, lost at home to minnows Paidha Black Angels in the Uganda Cup thus ending the season without any silverware, a performance Mulindwa described as ‘ unacceptable’.
Going into the new football season he dubbed ‘ Hakuna Mchezo’ which means no drama, he demands focus, commitment and results.
“All of you must work extra hard this time around. The demands of Vipers are very huge and everyone must work towards helping the club succeeds.”
Mulindwa attributed the poor results to lack of devotion, negative attitude and the fact that some players are easily satisfied and warned that they will not tolerate such this coming season.
He said, “Some of you still play football for pleasure forgetting it’s a job that you must take seriously. A lot of work is expected from both the players and technical team and everything has been availed to make this dream come true”.
“Vipers will not tolerate and accommodate anybody who is not ready to win. We are going to compete and not to participate. That is our target”, Vipers sports club president added.
Despite not winning any titles in the previous campaign, Lawrence Mulindwa acknowledged that there was success elsewhere; the completion of the construction of the new home of Vipers sports club, St Mary’s stadium.
He reckons this investment will help grow the club fan base, attract sponsors and in the long run ensure financial independence and sustainability.
Meanwhile, with the technical team having the full backing of the administration, head coach Jorge Miguel Da Costa will make recommendations and the necessary changes within the playing staff before the pre season starts.
Commenting on the new acquisitions, Mulindwa revealed that the official unveiling of the new Venoms will take place as soon as the club is done with the Transfer business.
With the Portuguese born coach back from holidays,St Mary’s stadium is expected to be a hive of activities commencing this Saturday when the pre season calendar is released.
