Former Special President’s Assistant on Research and Information Morrison Rwakakamba.

This government is known for corruption, little wonder a man who has done the right thing has shocked the nation.

Morrison Rwakakamba who was until recently a special presidential assistant on research and information, and Head of the Government Citizen Interaction Centre has written to the Secretary in the Office of the President, about irregularly receiving a May salary yet he resigned in April.

In his letter, Rwakakamba asks for the details of the account of the President’s office so that he returns the salary, Shs1.7m, that was credited to his Housing Finance Bank account on Wednesday, May 31.

“From the moment I handed in my resignation, I ceased being an employee …I request you to provide me with the account details of the office of the President such that I can return the above mentioned amount that was paid in my account irregularly,” he wrote.

Rwakakamba received praise in sections of social media after his letter surfaced;

“I can feel the chains breaking…from the depth of my belly. Rwakakamba Morrison this is exemplary. Also I’m thinking…this office pays on time!!!!” Belinda Namutebi wrote on his Facebook wall.

“This is the Way to go Rwakakamba Morrison I hope this opens the eyes of the others,” Olushumbles Oso wrote.

“My brother Morison Rwakakamba Morrison, is my man of the year. I just cannot believe what he has just done… it’s not Ugandan at all… I’m still screaming in disbelief,” Fred Daka Kamwada wrote.

However, some social media users called his action “stupid” and odd considering that everyone in government is “eating.”

“Mr Rwakakamba Morrison has written to his former employer to notify them they paid him May salary yet he resigned in April. Now, some people are accusing him of being ‘stupid’ to reject the money! What do people want, honesty or corruption?” Peter Nyanzi commented.

Rwakakamba tendered his resignation in April, saying he intended to “re-join non-State sector and focus on Agricultural production, public policy inquiry and international public interest consulting.”

He is the founding Chief Executive Officer at Agency for Transformation (AfT), a think tank on agriculture and environmental policy.

Last year, Rwakakamba graduated from the prestigious Harvard University in America with a Masters in Public Administration degree.
