Parliament was yesterday on fire as ICT minister Hon Frank Tumwebaze was tasked to explain why he defied Parliament’s order for calling extension of the sim card verification and registration deadline. In Tumwebaze’s speech, he stated that he was only fulfilling his duty as a minister on behalf of government.
“The person here was tasked to communicate, I take responsibility for communicating on a government position because that was the work I was assigned to do. If that angered the house (parliament) and the public, I apologise for that,” stated Tumwebaze.
The speaker Rebecca Kadaga advised the executive arm of government to always respect public interests.
“ I advice the executive to always respect the interests of both the public and parliament because if they were decent, the weekend row wouldn’t have happened”, Kadaga explained.
The President has extended the deadline till end of August.
