Jailed academic Dr Stella Nyanzi is the proverbial cat with nine social media lives. Contrary to her large followers’ thoughts that her Facebook wall would be inactive after being remanded in Luzira Prison, Nyanzi is still bubbling on social media.
Apparently, someone is running the controversial Makerere researcher’s account on her behalf. If you must know, there’s a provision to have someone to run your Facebook account should anything happen to you and you’re not in position to do it yourself. Well, for her supporters it was refreshing to see the wall that gives the government sleepless nights active again.
Only that this time round the person handling the account, is not gifted with Nyanzi’s poetic vulgarity.
According to the anonymous person stirring things up, Nyanzi has taken on teaching her fellow inmates science and English, “She refuses to let the system break the fighter in her and is channelling her energy into sharing her knowledge with inmates who are interested in learning,” reads a post on her wall.
Nyanzi was bizarrely arrested last weekend and charged early this week with cyber-harassment, offensive communication citing a January 28 Facebook post where she called President Yoweri Museveni “a pair of buttocks”.
She denied the allegations and was remanded until April 25.
