Njagua Kanyi aka Jaguar

“Kigeugeu” hit maker Njagua Kanyi, popularly known as Jaguar, was yesterday released on bail following the  hearing of the case in which he is accused of knocking and killing two people in a road accident last month.

The singer was granted a Shs50,000 (about Shs1.7m) bail, which angered the Kenyan public, with many taking to social media and venting why the presiding judge didn’t value life, just because a wealthy celebrity was involved. They claim Jaguar is using his wealth to obstruct justice.

Jaguar denied the careless driving charge and the magistrate ordered him to return to court on June 26, this year.

Jagua’s Range Rover which allegedly knocked dead two people

On March 19, it is alleged that the renowned Kenyan singer while driving his luxurious Range Rover on Makutano-Sagana Road in Kirinyaga County knocked down a boda boda cyclist Peter Mugo together with his passenger Sinfolian Maingi who died on spot.

Kenyans immediately took to social media using the hash tag #ArrestJaguar to call for justice.

However, the other twist to the case is that eye witnesses claim a female was behind the wheel at the time the accident happened. They say Jaguar rushed to the scene and claimed responsibility for the accident. The singer insists he was the one driving.

Jaguar recently joined politics and he is eyeing Nairobi’s Starehe Constituency seat in Parliament.
