KCCA FC yesterday advanced to the final round of CAF Champions League qualification. However, they face defending Champion Mamelodi Sundowns in the final round. This isthe South African club, is where our own goalkeeper Denis Onyango plays his professional football. The first leg will be played between March 10-12 and second leg March 17-19.
The “Kasasiro boyz” advanced to this stage on away goals rule having won their home game last week 1-0 against Primeiro de Agosto at Phillip Omondi Stadium. Yesterday KCCA lost 2-1 in Angola, but this defeat margin was not enough for the Angolan side since it needed at least 3-1.
KCCA last made it out of this next stage way back in 1997 and they managed to play up to Semi-finals. Since then Uganda has never got any other club to make it to at least the group stages of CAF Champions League.
Still at continental level, Vipers SC also proceeded to the next round after a hard fought 1-1 draw against Comoros side Volcan De Moroni. Vipers made a goalless draw at Namboole in the first leg and on Saturday they managed to hold 1-1 draw with saw them also qualify on away goals rule. Just like KCCA, Vipers will have to play South African club Platinum Stars on the final round of qualification.
