One Andrews Ofwono a resident of Tororo has dragged National Social Security Fund to court for allegedly denying him his savings contributions worth over Shs11M. After being diagnosed with liver complications in Mulago hospital two years ago, Ofwono was declared unfit to carry on with his normal duties by medical officers until he fully recovers.
According to reports from Capital Radio, unable to make ends meet, Ofwono was forced to reach out for his NSSF savings. However, the NSSF operations manager Stevens Mwanje refused to remit his savings, claiming that Ofwono was not permanently incapacitated as there were hopes he would recover.
According to the NSSF protocol in line with invalidity benefit, an employee is only entitled to receiving his or her benefits when they are subjected to physical or mental disability that renders them permanently incapacitated which they argue is not the case with Ofwono.
