Cranes have three confirmed international friendly games ahead of the much anticipated African Cup of Nations. Today, the Cranes will test the waters with North African side Tunisia which is also preparing for the 2017 Africa Nations Cup.
Since North African record champions Egypt is one of Uganda’s group opponents, Micho could prepare his note books as the ref blows the whistle.
Cranes has bitter memories against Tunisia. The last time they were hosted in 1999 Ugandans were humbled 6-0.
In the same game, three cranes stars will lose their places in the final 23 man squad that is recommended by CAF to participate in the competition.
CAF requires all participating teams to submit in their squads 10 days before the official kick off of the event, since the competition is starting on January 14, today Wednesday 4 marks the deadline of the submission. Penalty for delayed handover of the list is reducing the players to 21.
Coach Micho confirmed that three players will miss the clash due to various issues- Robert Odongkara who reported yesterday in the camp, Denis Onyango who is supposed to attend the CAF Glo awards on Thursday in Nigeria and William Luwagga Kizito who had a very important fixture yesterday with his Portugal based club Rio Ave though they lost 1-0 against Maritimo.
After this game, Cranes will then have to set off to Dubai for again other two more friendly games against European side Slovakia and AFCON defending champions Ivory Coast.
Tunisia plays against Uganda at the historic Stade de Olympique, El Menzah at 4:30pm
