There was a movie-style robbery in Kenya, KCB Thika branch in Kiambu County after a gang of thieves made off with a whooping Shs1.7b! (Kshs50m).  Confirming the incident, the bank’s manager divulged that the thieves broke into the strongroom through an underground tunnel.

According to reports, the robbers used an oxyacetylene flame to drill holes into two safes that had the money. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Thika Deputy police commander Bernard Ayoo said: “The robbers must have had an informer working at the bank who guided them into where the safes are kept. So far no suspect has been arrested. Investigations are ongoing.”

After the incident KCB sent a message assuring its customers that their funds were safe.

“We wish to assure all our customers that their funds are safe and there is no cause for alarm. Customers seeking to transact can do so at any other KCB branch or access services through our mobile and internet banking platforms,” the statement reads
