Age limit: Parliament releases Shs13bn for consultative meetings, each MP gets Shs29m

The director of communication at parliament Chris Obore has today confirmed the release of Shs13 billion meant to facilitate consultative meetings about age limit bill. Obore said the money has already been wired to accounts of both opposition and ruling party MPs.

“That money was picked from the statutory emoluments of members of parliament. We picked part of this money to enable MPs go home and do the consultations,” Obore said.

Unlike what many MPs have done already, Obore said these consultations will officially start on October 25 and end on November 15.

It is not yet clear whether all opposition MPs will take this money or not.

Just after it was announced that MPs would get this facilitation, opposition chief whip and also the Kira Municapality legislator Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda said they would refuse the money because it is like a bribe.
