MPs have no moral authority to amend our constitution which we made after countrywide consultations — -Prof Kanyeihamba

Former Justice of the Supreme Court Prof George Kanyeihamba has added voice supporting the group that is opposing the amendment of article 102 in the constitution of Uganda. While appearing on NBS TV morning Breeze show, Prof Kanyeihamba stated that MPs have no right to amend the constitution.

“MPs have no moral authority to amend our Constitution which we made after countrywide consultations”, he stated.

According to Kanyeihamba, those supporting the amendment are to doing it to cater for the personal interests of President Yoweri Museveni.

“They’re relating the amendment to President Museveni. They’re saying he’s young, which is true, but he’ll be violating the Constitution. It would be political madness to amend the Constitution. When we made the Constitution, it was the best we made”, he stated.

“The incumbent president can’t take advantage of an amendment without breaking his presidential oath. You should direct MPs and read to them Schedule 4 of the constitution because Museveni made a solemn oath”, he added.
