Bobi Wine released, calls for calm among his supporters

Kyadondo East  MP aspirant Bobi Wine, real name Robert Kyagulanyi has been released from Kira Division Police station where he was briefly detained this morning.

Upon release, the singer who is a front-runner in Thursday’s by-elections called for calm among his supporters.

“Let us be calm. Let us not show them what they hope to see. Let us direct all our frustrations in the ballot box,” Kyagulanyi said upon release.

Bobi Wine’s rally at Kasangati Saza Grounds earlier stopped by Police and he was whisked off to Kira Police Station. Police however denied that Bobi had been arrested, calling it a “consultative meeting.”

“We picked him for an engagement meeting on the guidelines of his rally. We have agreed with him on the new venue where he’s going to stage his rally,” Kampala Metropolitan Police commander Frank Mwesigwa told journalists.

Electoral commission says Bobi was supposed to be campaigning in Gayaza not Kasangati.
