DP asks its candidate to step down in Kyadondo East parliamentary race

Following the increasing intensity in the campaigns to fill the Kyadondo East parliamentary seat, the Democratic Party has asked its candidate Lillian Babirye Kamoome to step down from the race.

“After consultations with key party leaders and our candidate, we have asked her to step down and she has agreed to do so,” explained party president Norbert Mao today in their weekly press conference.

According to the party, this move is intended to strengthen the opposition in pursue of defeating NRM’s Sitenda Sebalu. However, there are still five more candidates left in the race; singer Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine, FDC’s Apollo Kantinti, FDC defiant candidate Muwada Nkunyingi contesting as an Independent, Sitenda Ssebalu and Sowedi Kayongo (Independent).




Mao also said that by midday tomorrow, DP will have announced who they will back in the race. Bobi Wine is the most likely candidate to get DP’s backing, as his family has strong DP roots.
