Wedding bells are tolling in State House as President Yoweri Museveni’s daughter Georgina is set to exchange vows with her beau identified as Phillip this weekend.

The first family hosted a kuhingira (give away) ceremony where Georgina was officially handed over to Phillip at State House Entebbe last weekend.

First Lady, Mama Janet with the young couple.

In Ankole culture, the girls’ family hosts the kuhingira and they are supposed to give her gifts in form of household items (Emihingiro). The couple is given anything that is needed for them to start a home, apart from a bed. They notion is that the husband to be could not have been sleeping on the floor.

Phillip and Georgina are campus sweethearts who hooked up while studying at Uganda Christian University, Mukono a few years ago.

It is said that Georgina, who is in her mid-20s is one of the President’s favourite daughters.
The president being a proponent of good family values and children getting married and growing together as couples instead of wasting their youth in promiscuity was glad when Georgina introduced Phillip and she gave them his blessing.

Georgina and Phillip will exchange vows at Namirembe Cathedral on Saturday and thereafter host their guests to a reception at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

President Museveni leads his children by example and will make 44 years in marriage with Mama Janet this August. In 2013, during their 40th wedding anniversary, the two renewed their marriage vows at Nshwere Church of Uganda in Kiruhuura District. The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Stanley Ntagali, presided over the ceremony.
