Javas’ Victoria Mall ceiling collapses

The ceiling of the Victoria Mall branch of Café Javas, a popular fast food outlet collapsed last night. The incident happened at about 9.30pm.

According to Knight Frank, the property managers of the Entebbe based mall, no patrons or staff were injured during the incident.

“We’d like to confirm that there were no injuries or casualties sustained as a result of this incident,” says Paul Mwirigi the Head of Marketing at Knight Frank Uganda.

“Fortunately no one was hurt. We are grateful to God for that,” read a statement from Javas management.

The cause of the incident has not be ascertained.

“At the moment our primary concern is for the safety of all involved; especially our beloved customers, therefore we are undertaking thorough investigations to ascertain the cause of this incident. Together with our dear tenant we shall also institute immediate measures to avoid a repeat of the same,” Mwirigi said.

It should be noted that it’s the decorative gypsum ceiling board that collapsed and this does not indicate any structural defaults in the mall.

The branch has since been close for repairs.

“We take the safety of our customers and staff very seriously and hence we shall close the Entebbe branch and ensure that full repairs are made. We regret the inconvenience this will cause.”

The Entebbe mall where Javas is located.

Javas that has been in operation for close to a decade has grown into a reputable indigenous fast food chain competing favourably with international franchises like KFC, Pizza Hut and Kenyan owned Java House. They currently have eight branches.
