About two weeks ago, president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni made a shocking statement at the vigil of  AIGP Felix Kaweesi in Kulambiro. He stated that the Police force is infiltrated with mafias.

“All these murders, I have followed myself. There are always clues leading to the criminals but the criminals have infiltrated the police,” the president said. He ordered IGP Gen. Kale Kayihura to “clean up the police”.

However today morning while appearing on NBS TV’s morning Breeze, the newly appointed police spokes person AIGP Asan Kasingye had other views of the president’s statement. He stated that he does not believe there are mafias in Police.

“We don’t have mafia within the police,” Asan Kasingye

“President didn’t say police is infiltrated by mafia. Mafia is an orchestrated movement.”

“We don’t have mafia within police. I don’t believe we have mafia in the police force. I have worked for the police force for 28 years”, he stated.

However, he did not deny that police has some indisciplined officers.

“In a force like ours which has very many people, you are meant to find some police officers who lose focus.”

He vowed to do anything that can help to clean the image of police in the public.

“On top of the platter, I want to make sure that the image of the force is improved. I want to close the gap between the police force and the members of the public”, the former Director of Interpol concluded.
