According to the directorate of Citizenship and Immigration control, for a non-citizen to work or trade in the country, they must part with a non-refundable USD 1500 (about Shs5.4m) on application.

The fee was introduced mainly for the purpose of making applicants commit themselves while applying for work permits and successful applicants would have to top up, while those who are unsuccessful would forfeit.
