Democratic Party joins Dr. Stella Nyanzi’s pads for school girls campaign

Dr. Stella Nyanzi’s pads for school girls campaign is fast gaining momentum after Democratic Party threw its weight behind the drive and launched a similar drive to help school girls.




“There is a strong call for us to pause for a reality check and assess the real situation of the Ugandan girl child of school going age, more so the subject of them accessing sanitary pads and education,” DP Party President Mao today.

He further noted that the  was ready to make a change in the lives of school girls. The Democratic Party launched a nationwide campaign in schools, colleges and universities to sensitize on sanitary pads use and accessibility.

Stella Nyanzi launched a fundraising drive that has so far pooled Shs3.5m. The gofundme sanitary pads for Uganda campaign has raised $950 (about Shs3.4m) on day one. The money has been contributed by over 27 people across the world who believe in the efforts.  Dr. Stella Nyanzi hopes to raise $10K(about Shs35m)

According to a United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) report 1 out of 10 schools going girls skips 4 to 5 days when undergoing menstruation, for every 28 days cycle, which translates into an estimated 13 learning days per term.
