Moroto teacher suspended over “indecent” breastfeeding three month baby at school

A female teacher at Child Jesus primary school in Moroto Municipality has been suspended for  breastfeeding her three- months- old baby at school. Agnes Nate was given a two week’s suspension by the head teacher, Sr. Rosario John Masawe last week.

Her suspension follows a resolution by the School management on February 11, 2017 deterring breastfeeding mothers from keeping their babies at school. According to URN, information obtained from the school, management asked breastfeeding teachers not to bring their babies into the school compound.

According to the February 11 resolution, the management does not allow breastfeeding during school hours. The breastfeeding parents are either faced with the option of either weaning their children or facing the wrath of the authorities.

Some teachers are said to be contemplating resigning from their jobs because their babies are sickly and could face adverse effects of malnutrition.
