Mr Lukwago and the technical team were previously cat and mouse as the Lord Mayor demanded for accountability of money allocated to KCCA. Like Tom and Jerry, the Lord Mayor’s attempts were futile. Lukwago was impeached five years ago before he could appoint a committee that would do the job.

However, his perseverance has paid off after Public Accounts Committee (PAC) was approved to oversee accountability of “our money”.

The committee’s main objective is to examine the reports of the Auditor General, Chief Internal Auditor and any reports of commissions of inquiry. It will also require the attendance of any councillor or officer to explain matters arising from the reports.

Minister for Kampala Affairs, Ms Beti Olive Kamya has authorised the committee whose members are; Mr Bob Kabonero, Mr Pontian Kaweesa, Ms Maria Nabbanja Ssentamu, Ms Betty Bainomugisha Ntuhe and Mr Michael Tugyetwena.

KCCA deputy spokesperson, Mr Robert Kalumba confirmed the approval of the members and said that they will immediately commence work. The PAC members will be required to serve for five years after which they will be up for possible reappointment.

Do the dab Omuloodi wa Kampala.
