Pineapple Bay; The hidden gem in Lake Victoria

There are hidden gems around us, but if you don’t know there are, one of those places is a 40-minute boat ride away from Entebbe. Its name? Pineapple Bay.

After the busy Entebbe road, an early morning in January, I can already feel the breeze from Lake Victoria, today showing herself from her best side, calm as can possibly be.

Suited up in life jackets we get on the boat that will take us to The Island. The sun is already reaching high in the clear blue sky but the wind is cooling us down and we have left the dust behind. We approach the island, surrounded with its clear water, and it’s a post card…

You can spend the night in cottages along the water, there are no wild animals so you can explore the island on your own, walking up the grassy to an amazing view over the island and Lake Victoria, sandy beaches with plum trees. A strategically placed hammock, just next to the pool, the drinks already ordered, nothing could be more perfect, especially after a soothing dip in the pool.

After spending the day out here, walking across to the other side of the island and discovering yet another perfect beach, you can head home on the afternoon boat, or you can get ready for an evening barbecue, bonfire and sundowners and enjoy the quiet, dust free, starlit sky from your porch before falling asleep to the sound of Lake Victoria, just outside your door… Another perfect adventure, just outside of Kampala…
