Kiiza Besigye makes another fruitless court appearance, case adjourned

Over eight months after Besigye was charged with treason, he is yet to face a hearing of the case. The former  FDC presidential aspirant appeared before high court as one of the bail conditions for the treason offences that were read to him in November last year. However, like other court appearances, there were no witnesses to argue the case.

While addressing the press, Kiiza Besigye stated that the government was using the court to frustrate the opposition through lengthy trials. He had earlier threatened not to appear before the court.

In November, Besigye was ordered to appear before High Court criminal division twice a month before the High court registrar  reduced it to  once a month citing financial reasons.

In the aftermath of 2016 presidential elections, Kiiza Besigye was arrested and charged with treason after a viral video purportedly of him swearing yet he had lost the elections.

The Directorate of Public Prosecution still contends they are carrying on with investigations.
