Three rounds away from the halfway stage of the season, Azam Uganda Premier League action returns this weekend after a one-week break, with SC Villa’s trip to Buikwe to face off with Vipers the headline fixture. Eight fixtures will be played between Friday and Saturday at various venues around the country. But the most mouthwatering of those will be played on Saturday at 4pm as third-placed Vipers go head to head with second-placed SC Villa.
The record champions have enjoyed a strong start to the season with 24 points amassed so far and were doing a good job chasing down KCCA until the current table leaders overwhelmed them 3-1 at the Philip Omondi Stadium last month. Villa made good use of the break as their preparations for the Vipers game included an extended tour in the Far East that prompted the Jogoo management to request a postponement of their league fixture against the 2015 champions—which the Uganda Premier League secretariat rejected.
While Vipers have had a run of poor form, winning just two out of their last five games and slipping eight points behind table leaders KCCA, they will be encouraged by the solid record they have posted at their Bunamwaya stadium and the visitors poor travelling ways. Villa have managed just one win from their last four games.
