Congolese music ace General Defao is set to perform in Kampala this month. Defao, born Matumona Defao Lulendo, was instrumental in the rise of Rhumba music and at one time he was ranked in the same league as Koffi Olomide and Papa Wemba.
Defao is set to headline the debut Lingala night slated for December 16 at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel. The artiste was banned from performing in his home country in 2000 after he had a political misunderstanding with late DRC President Laurent Kabila.
Defao has since lived in different countries, including Zambia and recently in the East African region. The 58-year old singer was at one point rumoured to be faced with financial problems stemming from lack of proper music management. Defao will be sharing the stage with Congolese-based instrumentalist and singer Charmant Mushaga together with his band, Congolese Djs- Dj Yannick, Dj Rodrigues and queen dancers.
Advance tickets to the event are going for Shs100,000 per person and Shs180,000 for couples.
