Main opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye has given President Museveni an ultimatum of 10 days to reopen Makerere University or else he mobilises a nationwide protest.
On Tuesday while speaking to the media at his home in Kasangati, Besigye expressed his discontent towards the continued indefinite closure of Makerere University, “Parents, students and Ugandans cannot continue to be subjected to unnecessary suffering because of this illegitimate regime of Museveni. Our students can’t wait as the committee consumes our money.”
“If Makerere is not open in 10 days, we’re going to call for a national protest,” he said.
“We call upon all Ugandans to engage the issue as a matter of national importance,” he added.
Besigye went ahead to rubbish Museveni’s recent decision to setup a visitors’ committee of inquiry into Makerere issues saying that it’s a waste of time since there’s already one that was set-up two years ago.
“The setup is uncalled for because the 204-page-report that was prepared two years ago by Prof (Francis) Omaswa has never been used,” he told the media.
