Makerere University guild president Roy Ssemboga and four other students have this morning been arrested at the recently closed university’s main gate.
Ssemboga was mobilising students in an attempt to walk to Parliament demanding the immediate re-opening of the university.
Makerere University’s head of security Jackson Muchunguzi denied knowing the students saying he was not aware of any planned lawful assembly schedule.
“All we know is that students are supposed to be home with their parents, this assembly is unlawful and we think these are imposters,” he said.
It’s now ten days since Museveni ordered for the closure of one of Africa’s oldest universities after both students and lecturers went on strike, with lecturers demanding salary arrears and students demanding lectures.
