Parliament purchased 488 machines worth shs.1.8bn to cater for all members with each iPad costing Shs3.6m.

Upon receiving the iPads, the MPs declared that they would save a lot of money that would have been spent on stationery, and the burden of carrying lots of books and papers to Parliament.

In the past, Parliament used to spend over Shs2bn in the purchase of stationery including papers, pens and note books.

However, the machines are expected to be returned by all MPs after their term in office.

Unlike in the ninth Parliament where only three MPs returned the machines,  all members in the current Parliament are expected to return all the machines or  be ready to pay Shs500,000 that will deducted from their salary as their tenure ends.
