Dorcus Inzikuru had a celebrity moment in downtown Kampala over the weekend. The former steeplechase Olympic winner had just finished her daily run when she decided to take a break and grab a yellow banana from a hawker at the famous Mandela fuel station along Ben Kiwanuka Street.

However, a group of passersby noticed Inzikuru and they immediately started shouting out her name as they heaped praises on her.

As a mob gathered around the former world champion, some members offered to pay up for all the bananas Inzikuru wanted; “you can even take the whole basket; you are our star,” they said.

But away from the bananas, some members in the crowd demanded to know why Inzikuru was no longer representing Uganda. Inzikuru gave her fans a ray of hope; she told them that she is back to training and she hopes to represent Uganda very soon; “I run from Entebbe airport to Kampala every day. I am sure I will be just in shape to represent Uganda at any upcoming competitions,” Inzikuru told her fans.
