About Michael Kiwanuka
Kiwanuka is a British Soul singer with Ugandan origins. He was born on May 3, 1987 and he is signed to Communion Records.
In January 2012, he won the BBC’s Sound of 2012 poll.
Kiwanuka grew up in Muswell Hill, North London, the son of Ugandan parents who had escaped the Amin regime
He attended Fortismere School, leaving there in 2005 after completing his A-Levels. He went on to study at the School of Media, Arts and Design at the University of Westminster.
Despite his Ugandan roots, his music is not popular here because his soul music style is not one of the loved music genres in the country. In sharp contrast, Adele’s music is popular in Uganda and her Hello has got a lot of rotation on radio, TV stations and even in night spots.
