Coaching students during holidays has been part of the programme for most schools, especially candidate classes.
Even when Kampala Capital City Authority banned holiday teacher, advising that students are supposed to stay home and rest during holidays, many head teachers ignored the directive and have kept children in school.
Now, the city authority has moved to enforce the directive and the first casualty is Little Star Tenderness Primary School in Busabala that was closed on Tuesday over the practice.
“We found pupils in class studying and when teachers learnt that we are from KCCA, they took off. However, we managed to arrest one. The owner of the school is also on the run but we shall hunt him down until we locate his whereabouts,” KCCA education director, Mr Prosper Lwamasaka said.
He said the city authority will keep monitoring schools to ensure that children are allowed to rest during holidays.
Lwamasaka said the school will remain closed until the owners who are on the run appear before the city authority to explain why they defied orders.
